Asia Argento, born in Rome to a household that includes directors and actors, was a professional in both fields. Aged nine she made her feature film debut alongside Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. She played the leading role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and appeared in Michele Soavi's 1989 film The Church. Later in the year, she was Nanni Moretti's daughter in Red Wood Pigeon (1989) (also directed by Moretti). Close Friends, written and directed by Michele Placido in 1992, was the film that launched Asia's career off. As she grew older, playing girls, she shifted to more complicated and more mature roles. The film was given a positive response during the Cannes International Film Festival. For Trauma (1993) it was the first time she worked for the first time with her father, well-known Italian film director Dario Argento (her mother is among Argento's favorite actresses, Daria Nicolodi, playing an overweight girl who is in search of her parents' killer. In 2002, she appeared in The Red Siren by Olivier Megaton with Jean-Marc Barr and the action thrilledirected in the film by Rob Cohen, with Vin Diesel.
